Scout
Scout is a very naive little girl. She says things to people that she does not think will hurt, but it does. Here is one of the naive things she said about the Cunninghams " That's ok ma'am, you'll get to know all the country folks after awhile. The Cunninghams never took anything they can't pay back-no church baskets and no scrip stamps. They nev er took anything off of anybody, they get along on what they have. They don't have much, but they get along on it."(pg 20)Now Scout did no think this was a bad thing to say in front of the whole class she was trying to explain to Miss Caroline about the Cunninghams. Scout does not want to disrespect the Cunningham family, she just does not know that what she said was a bad thing. Another time where Scout was being naive was when Walter Cunningham went to Scout and Jems house to eat and Scout says, "But he's gone and drowned his dinner in syrup."(pg 24) Scout did not know she was hurting Walter by saying this, but she was. He was not use to this kind of luxury, and Scout did not think of that. Another reason that Scout is naive Jem, Dill, and she all went and followed Atticus downtown. When they got there they saw that a mob had come to hurt Tom Robinson and Atticus. When she saw this she ran right into the middle of the mob, and she realized that she did not know anyone in the mob. Then she saw someone she recognized, and that was Mr. Cunningham. When she saw him she called him out by saying, "Entailments are bad"(pg 154). This means that oweing people is bad, and it is bad to be in debt. She did not know what she was saying was a bad thing to say around other people, but it was. Scout may be naive, but she is also a caring little girl. She loves and looks out for her father. You can tell that this is true, beacause when the mob was forming around Atticus, she ran over to him and said "H-ey, Atticus!"(pg 152). She did this because, she cared for him, and did not want the other men to hurt him. Another reason that scout is caring, she always cares about Jem's saftey. When Jem wanted to go out and follow Atticus she insisted on herself going. She said, "Then I'm goin' with you. If you say no You're not, I'm goin' anyway, hear?"(pg 149). She cares about going so she can make sure Jem, and Atticus are safe. Scout is a little girl who is naive, and does not really mind other peoples feelings. She is also a caring, and protective little girl.
Sybolism
Caring
I chose this picture to symbolize Scout, beacuse she is caring. She is a caring young girl who wants to look out after her family. That is why she gets so angry when people talk badly about her father. She also cares about her father enough that she would get in trouble with her cousin, and take the blame, so her father would not hear what her cousin had said about him. She cares about Jem too, she wants to look after him all the time, and go with him when he goes on what she thinks to be dangerous journeys. In the end we realize that Scout is not just a naive person. She is a person who cares about people in different perspectives.
