Scottsbro Case
The Scottsbro case was a case where nine young African Americans were charged for raping two white women in a freight car passing through Alabama. They were charged very quickly by other people. I think they were found guilty so quickly, because there was still much racism at the time and people were either going to take the two white women side or the nine African Americans side. The thing that helped these African Americans get off of charges was the prosecuters had no evidence. The only evidence that the prosecuters had was the two womens word.
Norris one of the African Americans from the trial escaped to Michigan, and Alabama wanted him back, but Michigan refused. They refused, because they thought he was being trialed unfairly. This could show that the north was not as racist as the south at this time.
In this case I think the liberals were the northerners. They represent free spirit, and letting go of the past. They wanted to let go of racism. Later on Communists used this as propaganda to help with their campaign. I think this could be used as communist propaganda, because it shows how not equal people are in America, and how that is a bad thing.
